I've been using Beautycounter products for almost 3 months now and it's safe to say I'm officially IN LOVE with this company. Beautycounter diligently researches and creates high performing, safer products for people seeking a comparable alternative to their potentially harmful personal care products that "they've used forever." To read more about Beautycounter and why I think they're rad, read this post.
I could tell right away that I loved the skin care products Beautycounter had to offer, but I wanted to wait until a few months had passed before giving more of an all encompassing review. I've been trying a variety of the skin care products such as the Face Collection, some of the Countertime (anti-aging) Collection, Cleansing Charcoal Bar, Purifying Charcoal Mask and Cleansing Balm. I have not been disappointed with a single product. As far as cosmetics go, I'm personally a minimalist. I have zero to no talent in beautiful make-up application so simple is ideal for me and the Beautycounter cosmetics I've chosen so far have been the perfect addition to my tiny 3 piece make-up bag.
While I've been impressed with every product, I've narrowed down a few of my favorites to share with you!
*Disclaimer: As a consultant for Beautycounter, naturally I would want to highlight the pro's of their products as opposed to the con's. In all honestly though, I have not found many con's to give feedback on at this point in time. At the end of this post, I will give my opinion on a few of the products they offer but it in no way speaks to the quality or performance of their products. I plan on updating this post as time goes on and I continue to use their products, so look for updates throughout the post as they happen. As usual, I do not recommend any product that I do not trust or use myself.
My Beautycounter Favorites
1.) Purifying Charcoal Mask
This charcoal mask is seriously the greatest! Even though you probably wash your face everyday, the charcoal mask provides a "deep clean" so to speak, extracting dirt, impurities and refining pores. It's formulated with activated charcoal and kaolin clay which help to detoxify, remove dead skin cells and promote regeneration. I often get congested, oily areas around my T-zone and chin and the charcoal mask has been super helpful for controlling the oil production around these areas. You can use it 2-3 times per week OR as an overnight spot treatment for pimples and acne! Just don't forget to wipe it off. (I may or may have not gone into a coffee shop one day with a big black spot on the side of my face, not noticing till I went to the bathroom...)
2.) Nourishing Cream Cleanser & Nourishing Day Cream
I've struggled for years to find an everyday moisturizer that actually moisturized and wasn't loaded with weird chemicals that I would have a reaction to. Beautycounter's Nourishing Day Cream has finally come to my rescue. It's unscented and loaded with nourishing fats like coconut oil and safflower oil which provide long lasting hydration but with a lightweight feeling. Aloe Vera and anti-oxidant rich acai are also added for extra soothing benefits. This moisturizer is really awesome if your prone to sensitive skin, as is the Nourishing Cream Cleanser.
The cleanser is lightweight, gentle and great for removing make-up without the use of harsh chemicals. It also contains coconut oil which hydrates and helps remove makeup, as well as aloe to soothe and witch hazel to tone the skin. I like that just as with the charcoal mask, the cream cleanser has two uses. You can use it just as a make-up remover without having to go through the process of a full face wash. I typically take a damp cotton pad with a small amount of cleanser rubbed into it to remove makeup from around the eyes.
3.) Rejuvenating Radiance Serum
Yes, I know I'm only 28 with the face of an 18 year old apparently since I constantly still get asked what I'm going to be going to college for... Not complaining though! If I still look 28 at the age of 38, I'll be happy. However, I sometimes honestly feel 10+ years older than I really am. Coping with the ups and downs of an Inflammatory Bowel Disease for almost 7 years can leave you feeling pretty run down and old beyond your time. When I'm really sick, I sometimes don't even recognize myself when I look in the mirror. So I've been testing out the Rejuvenating Radiance Serum because why not!? First off, it's formulated with mixed fruit acid complexes, almond oil, jojoba oil and rose oil so it smells heavenly. It's definitely helped improve my skin tone thanks to the Vitamin C and also adds a nice lightweight layer of hydration. While I don't have many wrinkles to address quite yet, my mom (who still has beautiful skin for her age) has also been using the serum and reports that "it has helped fine lines around the eyes and makes the skin softer with no breakouts." So there ya go!
4.) Balancing Face Oil
At first I didn't know what to think about the face oils. Putting oil on your face can seem pretty counter intuitive. After a little research though I discovered that oils can actually provide a protective barrier for you skin keeping out dirt, pollutants and other toxins while also quickly delivering vitamins and anti-oxidants to your skin cells. I've been using the Balancing Face oil which is great if you have both dry and oily areas of your face. I add just a drop or two to my moisturizer for all of the extra benefits and hydration that the oil provides. It's seriously so hydrating! Really helpful during these harsh Vermont winters. The balancing oil also smells amazing from the ylang ylang and wild chamomile it contains. While the oils are a bit pricey, I can't see myself going through this bottle in under a year since I only use a drop or two in my moisturizer when I need it. I'll keep you posted on how long it actually last though!
5.) Touchup Skin Concealer Pen & Color Pinch Cream Blusher
So my make-up essentials are ridiculously minimalistic. Like I said before, I have no talent for make-up application nor do I really have the desire to learn and spend time applying it. I like to simply use a subtle eye liner, light blush and liquid concealer to take care of any dark circles around the eyes. Beautycounter's Concealer Pen and Cream Blusher are exactly what I was looking for. The Concealer Pen (which I got in "Light") matches my skin tone perfectly, is easy to apply and actually seems to hydrate the skin as well. The pen delivers the concealer by "click" mechanism, dispensing just the right amount for one use and the paint brush style application makes it super easy to apply exactly where you need it. It's like face painting!
The Cream Blusher has been a game changer for me. With powder blushes I always felt like I needed to reapply after a few hours and if I didn't wash my blush brush religiously I would breakout around my cheeks. I love that the Cream Blusher (I chose Hibiscus color) goes on smooth, lasts ALL DAY and has not caused a single breakout. It has jojoba ester and carnuaba wax to provide extra moisture and it definitely does the trick!
Have you noticed a theme here? Literally every product I've tried so far is SO hydrating!! I think that's the biggest thing I've noticed in all of their products. So many nourishing, healthy fats are included that it never leaves your skin feeling thirsty. The other thing I've noticed and I wanted to point out, is that a little goes a long way. You do not need to use a massive amount to see huge results. I've had the Face Collection since November and still have at least half of all of the products left and that's with using them every single day. Some people get thrown off by the price but remember that you're paying for high quality, safer products that perform and last longer than average because you don't need to use an excessive amount, in my opinion.
That being said, there are a few Beautycounter items that are still great, high quality products but not something I think you necessarily need to shell out money for. You can typically find a safe, high quality lip balm for a much cheaper price, such as Badger or Dr. Bronners. Similarly, you can make your own sugar scrubs or body butters very easily using essential oils and nourishing fats like jojoba or coconut oil. My good friend Mallory is an independent distributor for Young Living Essential Oils, a busy stay at home mama to two gorgeous little girls and she still finds the time to make all sorts of cool things such as lip balms, hand purifiers and bath soaks using her essential oils. She knows she can safely use essential oils in combination with other 100% natural ingredients to easily create homemade personal care products. That being said, she's also a Beautycounter customer! It's a little harder to DIY a concealer, cream blusher or anti-aging serum. 😉
I truly believe life is all about balance. We need to always be open to learning and experiencing new things. Not all of it will be applicable or beneficial to us and that's okay! Just take what you need and leave the rest behind.
